The short version
Word Waypoint is free to download and every level is free to finish. You get a personal licence to play; the game and its content stay ours. Optional purchases are made through Apple or Google under their payment terms, and your statutory rights as a UK or EU consumer are never reduced by anything on this page. Play fair, don't rip the game apart, and enjoy yourself.
1. Who we are and what you're agreeing to
Word Waypoint (the "game") and this website are operated by Bytevia Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (Company Number 17135228), Registered Office: Suite 10693, 5 Brayford Square, London, E1 0SG, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can reach us at wordwaypoint@bytevia.app.
By downloading, installing or playing the game you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the game. These terms also serve as the game's end-user licence agreement (EULA) — if you obtained the game from Apple's App Store, they apply in place of Apple's standard EULA (see section 14). Our Privacy Policy explains how data is handled and forms part of your relationship with us, but it is not incorporated as a contract term. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
2. Your licence to play
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the game on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment, subject to these terms and the rules of the app store you got it from.
You may not, except where the law expressly allows it:
- copy, modify, adapt or create derivative works of the game or its content;
- decompile, reverse-engineer or extract the source code, level data or word databases;
- rent, sell, sublicense, redistribute or make the game available to others;
- remove or obscure any copyright or other proprietary notices.
3. Who may play
The game is intended for players aged 13 or over. If you are under 18, you should have the permission of a parent or guardian to play, and you must have the permission of the account holder (bill payer) before making any purchase. Parents can prevent accidental purchases using the built-in controls: "Ask to Buy" and Screen Time on iOS, and purchase authentication in the Google Play settings on Android.
4. Purchases
The game is free, and every level can be completed without paying. It offers optional in-app purchases:
- Ad-free subscription — an auto-renewing subscription offered on a weekly or monthly plan. While it is active it removes all advertising, grants 3 free hints each day, and adds an ad-free badge. It does not unlock levels: the full game is playable without it.
- Hint packs — consumable purchases that add hints to your balance. Hints can also be earned free through normal play.
All purchases are made through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google is the seller of record, processes your payment under its own terms, and displays the final price (including VAT) in your local currency before you confirm. We never receive your payment details.
Auto-renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the price and period shown, unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage or cancel the subscription at any time in your account settings — see section 5.
The subscription is tied to your Apple or Google account and can be restored on any device signed into the same account — use Restore purchases on the game's ad-free screen or welcome screen. Hint packs are consumed into your local game balance when bought; because game data is currently stored only on your device, a hint balance that exists only in deleted local data cannot be rebuilt.
If a purchase is refunded, revoked or lapses, the entitlement it granted (for example ad removal) ends with it.
5. Cancellation and refunds
Cancelling the subscription. Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us, and cancelling must be done there:
- iOS — Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Android — Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to stop the next renewal. Cancelling does not end the period you have already paid for: ad removal and the daily hints continue until it expires. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Because purchases are made through the app stores, refunds are handled by them:
- App Store — request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com (see Apple's refund guidance).
- Google Play — follow Google's refund process. Purchases can usually be refunded without questions within 48 hours.
Your UK/EU cancellation right. As a consumer you normally have 14 days to change your mind about digital content under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. When you buy in-app content, the store delivers it immediately with your acknowledgement — which is why, once the content has been supplied, the 14-day right ends. This is the standard mechanism both Apple and Google operate; it does not affect your other statutory rights.
Faulty content. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't, you are entitled to a repair, replacement or (where that fails) a price reduction or refund. If the store's process doesn't resolve a problem with something you bought in Word Waypoint, email us at wordwaypoint@bytevia.app and we will put it right.
6. Virtual items
Hints, stars, stamps, crests, ranks and any other in-game items are a limited licence to features within the game, not property. They have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or anything outside the game, and cannot be transferred or sold. Except where the law says otherwise, unused virtual items are not refundable and expire if the game is permanently discontinued (see section 10) or your local game data is deleted without a backup.
7. Advertising and third-party services
The free version shows a limited number of ads served by Google AdMob; the Privacy Policy describes the data involved and your consent choices. Ads are provided by third parties, and we are not responsible for the products or services they advertise.
8. Fair play and acceptable use
When using the game, you agree not to:
- cheat, exploit bugs, or use automation, modified clients or tampering tools;
- interfere with the game's operation or its advertising (including ad fraud);
- use the game for any unlawful purpose.
For serious or repeated abuse we may suspend the game's platform features for you, or report the conduct to Apple or Google.
9. Intellectual property
The game — including its name, artwork, design, sounds, level data, word-relationship databases and code — is owned by Bytevia Limited or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. "Word Waypoint" and the Word Waypoint logo are trade marks of Bytevia Limited. The game includes open-source components used under their respective licences; acknowledgements are listed on the support page.
10. Availability, updates and changes
The game is designed to work offline, so core play does not depend on our infrastructure. Features provided by third parties — advertising and purchases — depend on those platforms and may be unavailable from time to time.
We may update the game to add or adjust content, fix bugs, or meet platform and legal requirements, and we may modify or retire individual features. If we ever discontinue the game entirely, we will give reasonable notice through the store listing or in-game, and the offline game you have installed will keep working as it is. We will not materially degrade something you paid for without offering an appropriate remedy.
11. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales — including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Subject to that: we are responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by our failure to use reasonable care and skill, but we are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or loss related to business use — the game is licensed for personal entertainment only. Our total liability to you in connection with the game is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid for in-app purchases in the 12 months before the claim and £50.
We recommend keeping the optional cloud backup enabled; we are not able to reconstruct local game data that was deleted without one.
12. Ending the agreement
You can end these terms at any time by uninstalling the game. We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms; where fair, we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix the problem first. Sections that by their nature should survive (including 9, 11 and 13) survive termination.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — except that if you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland or an EU member state, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and you always keep the protection of any mandatory consumer rules of the country you live in.
If you have a problem, please talk to us first at wordwaypoint@bytevia.app — almost everything can be fixed faster that way.
14. Additional terms for the App Store
If you obtained the game from Apple's App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and Bytevia Limited only — Apple is not a party and is not responsible for the game or its content.
- Your licence is limited to use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service (including Family Sharing rules).
- Maintenance and support are our responsibility, not Apple's. Reach us via the support page.
- If the game fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the game.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the game, including product liability, regulatory compliance, or consumer protection claims, or for third-party claims that the game infringes intellectual property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
15. Additional terms for Google Play
If you obtained the game from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Where these terms conflict with mandatory Google Play terms about purchases or refunds, the Google Play terms prevail for those topics.
16. General
- If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest continues in force.
- If we don't enforce a right immediately, we can still enforce it later.
- We may transfer our rights and obligations to another organisation (for example if the game changes hands); your rights under these terms will not be reduced. You may not transfer yours without our written consent.
- We may update these terms — for changes that matter, we will update the date above and flag the change in the app's release notes. The version on this page is always current.
- These terms are offered in English.
